CHILDREN'S CARE CENTER

Acclimation

The transition from the family setting into the unknown is a challenge for the child. Adapting to a new environment and establishing a pedagogical relationship are things that the child first has to process. The changes in the daily routines, the daily separation from the parents are hurdles that have to be overcome. We therefore, give the parents the opportunity to spend time with their child in our institution on an hourly basis during the first few weeks. This makes the relationship between parents and educator more personal and gives the children time to get used to their new environment.

"Sometimes it's holding on tight, but it's letting go,

which shows true strength."

  • Every child decides for her/himself how long she/he needs to get used to the new environment.
  • The child should be well rested when he or she enters the institution.
  • During the settling-in period, the accompanying person should always be the same person.
  • The child should visit the day care centre for at least one week, for about one hour during playtime.
  • The presence of the accompanying person, whether it is the mom, dad, or a trusted relative creates a "safe haven" for the child.
  • Behave inconspicuously and leave the care of your child to the pedagogical staff.
  • If the child is distracted by play activities, the accompanying person can leave the room for a few minutes.
  • On the following days, the accompanying person should gradually say goodbye to the child for a longer period.
  • The goodbyes should be as short and loving as possible.
  • The pedagogical staff are always available for discussions and tips on settling in can be obtained from them at the daycare center.
  • Parents can spend the separation phases during the settling-in period in our lounge.
